The Collect
O ALMIGHTY God, who hast instructed thy holy Church with the heavenly doctrine of thy Evangelist Saint Mark: Give us grace that, being not like children carried away with every blast of vain doctrine, we may be established; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Readings: (Ephesians iv. 7; Saint John xv. 1)
Mark the Evangelist is the traditionally ascribed author of the Gospel of Mark. He is said to have founded the Church of Alexandria, one of the most important episcopal sees of Early Christianity.
Saint Mark is often depicted writing or holding his gospel and in Christian tradition, he is symbolized by a lion – a figure of courage and monarchy. His feast day is celebrated on April 25.
