Our Pastor

Bishop Seraphim Mary, OSF. was born to a military family from Ontario, Canada. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Law as well as a Master of Arts in Law and Jurisprudence from Carleton University. He also completed a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa and teaches in Eastern Ontario. Seraphim Mary was awarded a Doctor of Laws for his doctoral-level studies at Carleton University and his work in Canon Law from Saint Stephen Harding Theological College and Seminary. Having been ordained to the diaconate on October 3, 2002, he has served within the Anglican, Orthodox and Roman Catholic communions respectively. He completed post-ordinational studies at the University of Notre Dame.

As a professed Oblate-member of the Franciscan Order of Divine Compassion (FODC), Seraphim Mary seeks to surrender his life to Christ through his service to the community. He does this through modelling the footsteps and spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, observing a 'regula vita' and living a life in conformity with FODC Credenda.

In June of 2014 Seraphim Mary was appointed Pastor of the Fellowship of Saint Francis in-the-Streets by Archbishop +Peter Goodrich of the Independent Anglican Church, Canada Synod 1934 (IAC-CS). He was ordained a priest on April 12th, 2015. The Fellowship's mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, living out an Anglican heritage with a Franciscan spirituality in the midst of a diverse and ever-changing global community.

On December 3rd, 2015 Seraphim Mary was appointed Custodian of the Canons for the IAC-CS. In this role his mandate is the study of ecclesiastical and canon law in order to disseminate jurisprudence and provide information of historical, legal and contemporary interest to the House of Bishops. For his dedication and hard-work Seraphim Mary was appointed Archdeacon of the IAC-CS on June 24th, 2017.

By recommendation of Holy Synod and affirmation of the IAC-CS Bishops' Council on June 9th, 2019, Seraphim Mary was consecrated bishop. He served as suffragan bishop for the Diocese of Ontario. On June 5th, 2020 in consultation with IAC-CS Bishops' Council, Archbishop Peter W. Goodrich named Seraphim Mary as Coadjutor Bishop.

He describes himself as an evangelical Catholic who is committed to The Anglican Way and believes that Saint Francis was right when he said that “all the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle”.
