Yesterday Pope Francis held an audience with the Federation of
Christian Organizations for International Volunteer Service. He asked
its volunteers to help the poor become champions for the Gospel and
warned against the risk of the poor and migrants being left to the
mercy of the human traffickers.
(Vatican City) "The poor must not be seen as a
means to making a profit!” Pope Francis used this phrase to stress
the importance of volunteer work and giving freely, during today’s
audience with the Federation of Christian Organizations for International Volunteer Service
(FOCSIV). He asked them to act as “instruments to help the poor be
centre stage”. The Pope also took the opportunity during [yesterday's] audience, to denounce the risk of migrants being left to the
mercy of the sea and human traffickers with no scruples.”
